The Nativity of the Ancient Craft

The tradition of the living Nativity scene from about 1223 by S. Francis of Assisi who, wishing to observe with the eyes of the body the humility of the Incarnation, represented in the village of Greccio the Nativity. So says the episode Thomas of Celano, the biographer of the saint: "Greccio has become like a new Bethlehem ... people came running and cheers of joy will never savor, first, before the new mystery choices ... The monks sing praises to Lord and the whole night a burst of joy ... One of these has a vision: he feels that a child lying in the manger ...".

Faithful to the intuition of St. Francis of Assisi, adults and youth of the parish community of Santa Maria La Stella, have realized the Nativity of old trades, which was housed in space in front of the rectory and in the little Piazza Pio XI.
The crib was born nearly a game in December 2002, is the ancient crafts now disappeared, such as: the pastor, the baker, the millstone, the embroidery, the farm, etc.. All faithfully reproduced.

Construction work started back in November, and then end with the demolition in February.
The crib has had considerable success with the public, reaching about 30,000 admissions, and to upgrade the networks to local TV (Antenna Sicilia) and national (Unomattina of Raiuno).

Unfortunately, the edition of 2008-2009 has not taken place, because of the wide economic crisis which affected the parish and the families of the community.
The 2009-2010 edition was prepared in abridged edition, edited by the Association Stella d'Oro.
The Nativity of old trades, will return to normal edition next year with the VIII Edition 2010-2011.
